Many people seek happiness in the material aspects of life. They spend a lot of time and energy pursuing their dreams of owning a bigger house or a more expensive car, unaware that real change comes from within.
The truth is that we can only change our environment by changing ourselves first, which is why the key to long-term happiness is to take care of your inner self and build a stronger spiritual life.
I know that in the fast-paced society we live in today, it’s not always easy to slow down and work on improving your spirituality. That’s why I wanted to share with you 5 ways to develop your spiritual side:
- Be grateful
Everybody has something to be grateful for. Whether it’s having good health, good friends, or even a good sense of humor, it’s important to acknowledge the positive things that are a part of your life. There are a lot of benefits associated with being thankful that can help you change your life for the better.
People who are grateful tend to be more resilient to life’s disappointments, more focused and more determined. Start every day with a prayer of gratitude and open your heart and mind to welcome a new day.
- Take responsibility
You shouldn’t rely on objects or even people to make you happy. Sure, it’s important to have people you love and who love you back in your life, but they are not in control of your existence. They are not responsible for your well-being. You are.
Remember that happiness comes from within. If you learn to take full responsibility for whatever happens in your life, good or bad, you will be one step closer to living a spiritual life.
- Try to find clarity
Finding stillness in our hectic world is difficult, but it’s also crucial when it comes to our inner landscape.
Spend at least 10-30 minutes at the end of the day thinking about the moments you’ve experienced throughout the day, and then try to associate an emotion with each moment.
This will help you pause everything and notice what things in your life make you feel anxious, resentful, or happy and content. It’s important you do this to reconnect with your center at the end of a busy day.
- Slow down
You need downtime, breaks and moments of calmness to explore the energy inside of you. Just like your physical body, your inner self needs time to recover and recharge throughout the day.
Constant stress and anxiety clouds your mind and soul, so you should make it a priority to set time aside for relaxation. Listening to some calming music, meditating, or even taking a deep breath when you feel like you’re about to snap are all great ways to alleviate stress
- Create a special space in your home
Choose a space in your home where you can go to unwind and envision yourself living a spiritual life. Use this space to be alone with yourself, to read, pray and meditate.
It’s important to have a special place where you can feel totally disconnected from the outside world and all the tension that comes with it, so that you can focus on discovering your spirituality.
